Common questions
How does Visionary detect duplicates?
Visionary uses two methods. First, it computes a SHA-256 hash of each file to instantly find byte-for-byte identical copies. Then it uses Apple's Vision framework (VNGenerateImageFeaturePrintRequest) to generate a visual fingerprint for each image and compare them — this catches the same photo saved at different sizes, qualities, or formats.
Will Visionary delete my files automatically?
No. Visionary never deletes or moves anything without your explicit action and confirmation. Files are moved to the macOS Trash — not permanently deleted — so you can always recover them from Finder.
Which image formats are supported?
HEIC, HEIF, JPEG, PNG, TIFF, GIF, and WebP. Format detection uses Apple's Uniform Type Identifiers, so renamed files are handled correctly.
Does Visionary scan subfolders?
Currently Visionary scans only the top level of the folder you select. Recursive scanning is on the roadmap. Package contents (like .photoslibrary) and hidden files are intentionally ignored.
Why can't I restore a file using "Put Back" in the Trash?
This is a known issue on recent versions of macOS with sandboxed apps. The file is safely in Trash and can be moved back manually. I'm actively investigating a fix — let me know if you're affected.
How do I restore my purchase on a new Mac?
Open Visionary Settings (⌘,) and tap the Restore Purchases button. Make sure you're signed into the same Apple ID used for the original purchase.
What does the Match Sensitivity slider do?
It controls how similar two images need to be before Visionary groups them together. Strict only matches near-identical images (same photo, slightly different compression). Broad catches more loosely similar images but may produce more false matches. The setting takes effect on the next scan.
